Racial Geography of the MBTA

The Boston Globe once called Boston the most racist city in the US. This project aims to figure out what that means for the city’s public transit system. I used data from the American Community Survey and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to analyze how racial demographics can be used to analyze transit service. Check it out here.

This was my final project for Government 50: Data Fall 2020. I used R to gather and clean the data, and I used Shiny to create the interactive map. The project includes several data visualizations and a statistical model.

Visualizing COVID-19 deaths by region

While interning at the Financial Times, I worked closely with the graphics and data team to create regular social media content. I pitched this graphic to illustrate the changing trends in COVID-19 deaths as a sliding carousel on Instagram, a new format for the FT's page.

'Bubble tea' isn't completely wrong (but it's still wrong)

Inspired by Jiayang Fan's Chronicles of a Bubble-Tea Addict, I wrote this piece to explain who refers to the Taiwanese, tapioca-topped drink as "boba" or "bubble tea." Using data from Google Trends and the Census, I used R to analyze and model the regional divide in search preferences. This piece is part of a personal project I'll be updating as I learn more data science skills in R and Python.
